In the field of communication engineering,we need to analyze the signal and derive its property,To do so,we have to express the signal in its frequency domain.The translation of a signal from time domain to frequency domain is obtained by using the tool such as Fourier series and Fourier Transform.
Sine waves and cosine waves are building blocks for any periodic signal.Periodic signal consists of sine waves having different parameters.
Fourier series represents a periodic waveform in the form of sum of infinite number of sine and cosine terms.
